Real Madrid confirmed their place in the Copa del Rey quarter-finals on Wednesday night after beating Real Zaragoza 0-4 at La Romareda. After the final whistle, Vinicius Jr, Lucas Vázquez and Dani Carvajal spoke to the press to give their thoughts on the performance and the upcoming Madrid derby on Saturday.
“I am thrilled with the victory and I got a goal, which makes me feel really assured. I scored following a great pass from James and I am so thankful to him. We tried it in training and today it resulted in a goal. This was such an important win in the grand scheme of this season and it has boosted us.
“Our concentration levels were the best element of a game we knew would be tough. We were extremely focused from the off to look for a goal in the first 15 minutes. We got it and then everyone relaxes a bit. The variety of the goal scorers gives us real confidence going into Saturday’s clash with Atlético de Madrid because it’s a huge game. I’m thrilled so many players got on the score sheet today.”
“We are really satisfied with that. We knew it would be tricky, this is a tough ground. We went into this one with real eagerness. The result was fair. Zidane told us to look at it like it is a final. We are three games away from fighting for the Copa, that is how we see it. We want to win and fight for all the titles. We are all important here and the coach gives us chances. We give our all to him. The competition in the squad boosts us all.
“Zidane is managing the group very well as ever. He makes changes, and whoever plays, does a great job. That nice balance of giving everyone minutes means we see the best from every player. Jović is a young player in great condition. He keeps pushing and we’re so happy he’s in the team.”
We put in a great performance today, but we have to congratulate the opposition because they caused us problems and I hope they get lucky in their promotion bid. We played a disciplined game and kept a clean sheet. We’re three games from the final and we’ll give it everything we’ve got. We kept the opposition out again today.
“Vinicius Jr. is capable of that and much more, as well. I hope he keeps scoring goals and adding to his confidence. I see him every day in training and the goal he got today comes as no surprise to me.
“The match against Atlético is hugely important. It’s a derby in front of our fans and we want to stay on top. It’ll be special and we’ll do all we can to win it.”
