Real Madrid’s defensive problems just don’t seem to have any form of solutions. We have analyzed the poor transitional play of the entire defensive unit in the goal which they conceded against Valladolid.

-
The 5 defensive players of the Madrid line-up were divided into three lines! At this point, Marcelo still looks undecided whether to cut in or stay with the man on his right. Carvajal could have stayed with Guardiola (the left-most player on the frame) but he chose to move inside.

-
Ramos and Carvajal both missed their tackles but Varane stayed rooted despite knowing there is someone behind him. Casemiro could have cut in as well to block the path of the ball but he carries on a more linear path.

-
Varane’s turn was way too late and now he cannot get close to either the ball or the striker (not in the frame). Casemiro could have accelerated his run to get close to the goal-line but he was not quick enough.

-
Finally, we have the most depressing sight. Real Madrid’s entire defense got swept away due to some disastrous positioning decisions and it costed the team dearly.
