Real Madrid will face Atalanta in the Champions League round of 16 after the draw was held at the UEFA headquarters in Nyon. The first leg will take place in Italy at the Gewiss Stadium on 16/17 or 23/24 of February, with the second leg to be played in Madrid on 9/10 or 16/17 of March. The exact match schedules will be confirmed later on Monday.
Atalanta finished in second place in Group D behind Liverpool. They won three games out of the six, drew two and lost one. Their only defeat coming against Liverpool, although they also beat the English champions 0-2 at Anfield. This will be the first time that Real Madrid and Atalanta face each other in the competition.
