Thursday could be full of good news for Real Madrid fans. Two transfer sagas appear to have taken a positive turn in the past week or so, well according to reports anyway.

MARCA’s Jose Felix Diaz exclusively reported that Raphael Varane is ever-closer to a contract renewal at Madrid. The club are convinced the Frenchman has five or six years at the top level still in him, and have opted to speed up contracts talks with the 27-year old, who’s contract expires in June 2022.

This was contrary to the report from AS journalist Sergio Santos, who on Wednesday reported the Frenchman wants to leave Los Blancos at the end of the current season, and has informed the club too. But this fresh twist is no doubt a positive for Madrid, who are clear on investing in their current core.

Varane’s partner in central defence, Sergio Ramos, could also make an important announcement today. The ever-reliable Jose Angel Sanchez from La Sexta confirmed today that the club’s captain will reveal his decision about his future in a press conference at 17:00 CET, and his decision will be to stay.

The 34-year old is a free-agent at the end of the season, and has been linked with a move away from Madrid, after not seeing eye-to-eye on the contract length Ramos is demanding. A fresh twist is on the horizon though, and having already agreed a contract renewal with Luka Modric, it looks like another pivotal aura is going to remain at the club.

And perhaps one to keep an eye on for the future, but Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that super-agent Mino Raiola is eager to take one of his clients to Madrid this summer. The club have been heavily linked with Erling Braut Haaland and Paul Pogba in the past 12-24 months, more recently the Borussia Dortmund forward. Madrid’s pursuit of a superstar forward has been confirmed by several reliable outlets in Spain and abroad, and so perhaps Haaland is the player Raiola wants Madrid to land?
