Dani Ceballos has today joined Arsenal on loan until the end of the 2019/20 season.
The Spanish midfielder departs following a two season spell at the Santiago Bernabéu, a period in which he amassed 56 appearances in all competitions, although only 35 in the league, starting in only 19 of them, which eventually resulted in stunting his development and growth as a player.
Ceballos joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2017 for a reported fee of 18 million euros, but never really got along with Zidane in his first season and was ready to leave Real Madrid in 2018 if it wasn’t for Zidane to do it first. Once Zidane left his position as Real Madrid’s head coach, Ceballos enjoyed more game time under Julen Lopetegui and Santiago Solari, but that drastically changed again with the sacking of Solari and the return of Zinedine Zidane in March. Therefore Ceballos knew he had to leave, but the Spaniard doesn’t want to give up on his dream of playing for Real Madrid, which is the reason why he only wanted to get loaned out.
It’s to be seen if he’ll be able to impress Zidane during his spell in London or if he, eventually, has to look for a new club next year.
Good luck, Dani!
