After returning to the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu in 2017, following a number of years out on loan, Jesús Vallejo did not establish himself in the first team as many expected. Following the signing of the Brazilian talent Éder Militão, Jesús Vallejo could leave Real Madrid for another year on loan.
According to reports from AS, Bayer Leverkusen are interested in signing Vallejo on a one-year loan. After winning the U-21 European Championship as the captain of the Spanish team, the Spaniard was voted into the Team of the Tournament.
Since his return to the Spanish capital in 2017, Vallejo featured only in a total of 19 games in the last two seasons due to continuous injury problems. Despite barely playing for Los Blancos in the last two season, the Spaniard does not intend to leave Real Madrid this summer. “I want to stay, I’m very happy to be here and I want to continue to make progress. There are good players here and I’m learning by being next to them”, he said in an interview with AS last month.
However, a loan move to Leverkusen could be the best option for him since playing in the Bundesliga wouldn’t be new for him. He spent the 2016/17 season on loan at Frankfurt where he was a key player, featuring in 25 out of possible 34 league games.
