Real Madrid have identified Ajax’s Donny van de Beek as an alternative if they cannot complete the transfer of Paul Pogba from Manchester United, according to a report from MARCA.
The 22-year-old Dutch playmaker netted 17 goals, provided 13 assists and made a name for himself last season with his performances, catching the attention of several big clubs across Europe.
Los Blancos have made no secret of their interest in Pogba and he remains Zidane’s number 1 priority, but they might have to move onto ‘plan B’ as the Frenchman’s signing seems quite difficult and could drag on until July or August. Real Madrid would like to close the signing of a midfielder as soon as possible, leaving van de Beek an easier and more affordable target.
Van de Beek is reported to be valued between €60m-70m, which is approximately €100m less than United want for the World Cup winner.
Christian Eriksen seemed to be the alternative should Madrid’s pursuit of Pogba turned out to be unsuccessful, but Zidane has shown a lack of interest in the Dane and the club turned their attention elsewhere.
